Walt Whitman biography
Walt Whitman was born in 1819 in New York. He is often recognized as one of the first true American poets. Whitman started publishing his writings in 1839. Walt's first book, Leaves of Grass, was republished nineteen times! Whitman's brother was wounded in the Civil War at the Battle of Fredricksburg. Whitman had a stroke in the 1850's, and he died in 1892. Whitman is known as the "Good Gray Poet." He wrote about the "common man," and diversity. Perhaps, one of his most famous poems is, "I Hear America Singing."

Good bibliographic info, Ryan, but the assignment for content was to connect his works and his life.
ReplyDeleteExample: How did his brother's war injury affect Walt? He became a volunteer to nurse soldiers back to health in Wash DC. He wrote many poems about those civil war themes - we looked at two of them that inovled Lincoln.
You needed to remix ideas and concepts, not just give a list of facts. You got done early, but could have invested yourself in re-reading the assignment and nailing it.
